Arugam Bay
For me Arugam Bay, like much of Sri Lanka, is a poignant reminder of how things elsewhere, Canggu in Bali, Anjuna in India, used to be. Surfers mingle with the fisherfolk on the sandy beaches while quaint shack-cafes serve a menu that mixes simple fresh Sri Lankan cooking with the ideals of vegetarianism and healthy living, so you get juices, veggie bowls and the delights of the Sri Lankan ingredients.
